WHY TIMING MATTERS

Waterproofing Decisions Get Harder After the Next Trade Moves In

Building Envelope Protection for Concrete Walls & Masonry.

Concrete and masonry contain small pores that can let water through. Water can also enter through cracks, joints and gaps around pipes or where materials meet. Therefore, plan waterproofing for building envelope protection for your concrete walls & masonry, before crews cover the work or place soil against foundation walls.

A waterproofing scope may take only a few lines in the plans, but missing details can affect access, surfaces and other trades. If crews cover or enclose an area, checking and fixing those details becomes harder.

Early review keeps the scope visible while the team still has options.

What changes when the scope waits

→ Less access when crews need to check or prepare surfaces.

→ Fewer options where different materials meet. Early review also helps resolve these connections.

→ More planning pressure before work starts.

→ Greater risk of callbacks if crews miss details.

COMMERCIAL WATERPROOFING APPLICATIONS

Waterproofing for Commercial Walls, Decks & Foundations

PSI installs waterproofing for commercial walls, decks, foundations and other parts of commercial buildings. Because each project has different needs, the plans and site conditions guide the scope.

01

Walls

Review the plans and specifications before defining the wall waterproofing scope.

02

Decks

Include deck use and exposure so PSI can review the specified waterproofing.

03

Foundations

Plan waterproofing for concrete or masonry walls below ground before crews protect the system & backfill.

04

Other Building Areas

For other building areas, send the plans so PSI can confirm whether the work fits its services.

FIELD PLANNING

Plan the Details While Options Are Still Open

Waterproofing works with other parts of the building, so the connections matter. Define where each system starts and ends before installation.

01

Define the Limits

First, identify locations and quantities. Then include drawings, specifications and any updates to the bid documents.

02

Confirm Conditions

Also, share surface conditions, exposure and access limits. Include any work in stages and the planned schedule.

03

Plan System Connections

Before work starts, flag connections, pipe openings and system edges. Also, identify nearby work and planned protection.

RELATED SERVICE:

Masonry Water Repellents.

PSI applies water-repellent treatments to exposed commercial masonry and concrete so less rainwater soaks into the surface. However, these treatments serve a different purpose from foundation dampproofing and do not replace specified protection below ground. Include your project location, surface type and specifications so PSI can review the bid.

PROJECT QUESTIONS

Before you request a bid.

Where does PSI perform commercial waterproofing?

From Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, PSI serves Northern Kentucky, Greater Cincinnati and nearby Indiana. We also consider commercial projects within approximately 250 miles, depending on scope and location. Include your project city so we can review travel needs.

What if the project team has not chosen a waterproofing system?

Send the project location, drawings and known site conditions. Also, list any scope questions that still need answers. Before installation, the project team should confirm system requirements using the design documents and manufacturer guidance.

Can I include related exterior building work in the request?

Yes. List each scope separately so PSI can review the work. PSI also performs commercial caulking and joint sealants, expansion joints and air barriers. However, PSI does not perform glazing.

THINK BEYOND THE FINISHED SURFACE

Access is easiest before crews cover the work.

If crews backfill a foundation or install nearby finishes, fixing a missed detail may require digging or removing finished work.

Discuss waterproofing while there is still time to define the scope, prepare surfaces and plan the order of work.

Foundations & below-grade walls

Plan moisture protection before these parts of the building become hard to reach.

Commercial walls & structures

Define waterproofing areas so protection continues where materials meet.

Decks & exposed areas

Also, include deck use, weather exposure and the specified system in the scope review.

REAL WORK. DETAILS THAT MATTER.

The details become part of the protection.

Coverage alone does not tell the whole story, because the installation details matter too. The system must also connect properly at joints, openings and edges.

  • Surface condition and preparation
  • Joints, openings and connections
  • Protection before the next trade or backfill

Follow project specifications and manufacturer instructions during preparation and installation.
